As a child growing up in a family very involved in a rural Lutheran church, Suellen Lowry wanted to be a minister. Thus it should be no surprise that she views her work on environmental issues as a ministry. Suellen decided to work full time for conservation as the result of a powerful Bible study experience (of Genesis) in the early 1980s. Suellen is a leader in her Quaker Meeting (Clerk of its Ministry & Oversight Committee in 2004-05), sits on the Northern Humboldt (County) Ministerial Association, started the Christian ecumenical youth group in her area, and has been a Sunday School teacher for over 10 years. In May, 2005, Suellen finished an intense, four-year Theological Education by Extension, Education for Ministry, program by University of the South School of Theology. She is also a lawyer, mother, and avid reader and quilter.
